That's the question I ask a lot when I conduct training for my home-based Internet business to my business partners.

And it can take quite awhile for someone to realize that it's not money, not effort, not love but its...

TIME

Yes, time...

That's because nothing significant can ever be achieved in a day. I'm sure you've heard that Rome was not built in a day (and not in a night either).

In fact, the only way to achieve anything in life is to set a goal, and then make a plan, and start taking focused action to work on achieving the goal over time.

Last year, this time, I attended T. Harv Eker's MMI - Millionaire Mind Intensive (MMI) as you can see in my previous post.

And this year's MMI in Singapore happened just 2 weeks ago!

I was literally shocked that a year just zipped by...

...it's frightening

...it's scary

...it's a feeling of a sense of loss

...it's a mixed bag of emotions

A year gone by... and another Christmas is coming next, and then 2009!

"Hey, what have you achieved in one year?" I heard a little voice asked myself.

Have I made the best of 2008?

And have you?

Well, in a way, I'm glad I've made a lot of progress for my core home-based business that's currently gaining the momentum and excitement that I wanted.

Plus, I made some pretty interesting and mouth-watering trips to neighbouring Malaysia up north, so much so that I decided to start another blog:

A Tribute To My Mom

8th October 2007. 10.25 am.

I’m in Klang, Malaysia (about half an hour drive away from Kuala Lumpur) for a short business trip.

An hour ago, my sister rang and told me my mom had passed away!

To me, she had left us several years ago.

She’s 81 this year and had been senile for the past few years. In fact, it’s a release for her as she suffered from pain, diabetes, high blood, etc as she move on to the next world.

Her life had been purposeful bringing all of us up selflessly!

We all love her … she sacrificed her life for us, never thinking for her own interests. I learned PERSEVERANCE from her! She kept going day after day despite her struggles and challenges holding on to the belief that there’s light at the end of the tunnel… and it finally came for her! I felt that she had been saved…as I feel very peaceful. Thank GOD for that!

Back in Singapore in the 1960’s and 70’s, life was hard and it was a HUGE struggle!

No one who does not know the history of Singapore would suspect that just 30 years ago, it was a totally different society and so much had taken place in just three short decades.

In addition to doing all the housework, my mom had to work very hard day after day, sewing and washing clothes for others to supplement the household income as she brought up 8 children almost single-handedly!!!

She never complained …

She just kept going!

I remember asking her about life when I was in my teens and she told me that as she kept moving on day after day, things will work out very soon. And finally, we all grew up and she could ‘retire’ from being a housewife. No more marketing, no more cooking, no more chores.

Unfortunately, she could not enjoy life much as she was inflicted with sickness.

In her last few years, she could not recognize anyone of us. She’s like a stranger to us and we strangers to her. Sad :-(

May she rest in peace ... and she’ll always live in my memory. She’s a model mom to me and I thank GOD for her!!

I lost around 1 kg for each of the last three months with these free weight loss tips :-)

In early November, I was shocked to realize that I almost hit 90 kg! Then I started to lose weight systematically, buy up books and checking out free weight loss tips from the Internet.

In addition, one book (not free) I highly recommend is "Fight The Fat" by Dr. Ben Tan, head and consultant sports physician at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre in Singapore. He's also won an Asian Games gold medallist and other awards. There's plenty of No B.S. weight loss tips and advice there, especially from a doctor's point of view.

Now, I'm at 85.8 kg... and will achieve 84 kg by end Feb 2007 as I'm taking the slow but steady and long lasting route.

Impressions Of Shanghai

Shanghai, China - Looking out the window of the suite of Central Hotel, Shanghai's famous Nanjing Road "bu xing jie" (major pedestrian street) is impressive. . .

The night scene is just as beautiful!

Literally, tons of people throng that street lined with shops and eating places. Here, I get a taste of 17 million population in a busy city!

For the last three days, my wife and I visited several places of attraction:

Huai Hai Road - Shanghai's 'Orchard Road' - a straight, long, road of modern shopping centers. If I blindfold you and airdrop you there, you probably won't know which city you're in :)

Along this road, we chanced upon a great joint for body massage - almost the best service I ever experienced! They even serve us food after the wonderfully soothing massage. If you need the details, just drop me a mail at roger@rogerloh.com

Yu Yuan - several 'criss-crossed' streets of shopping and eating places, with a taste of ancient China, definitely worth a visit.

The Bund - the famous beach that's lined with around 30 historic buildings of yester year, some government buildings like the Russian consulate, corporate buildings like AIA, and hotels like Peace Hotel (which gotten famous through the Hong Kong TV serial, 'Shanghai Beach').

The bund is along the Huangpu River which meanders from north (adjoining from Yangtze River) to the south, cutting across the Shanghai province.

Several bridges and tunnels connect the the bund to the opposite side, one of which is an 'sightseeing' tunnel (for details, visit http://lyw.sh.gov.cn/en/scenic_spot/bundtunnel.aspx). Modern high technologies are applied in the decoration of the interior walls of the tunnel, providing the passengers with background music as well as pictures, patterns and views about people, history, culture, science and technology and natural scenery.

Opposite the bund is the Oriental TV Tower, Asian's tallest at 468m, where you can ride the elevator to 263m or even 350m at a nominal price. It is the 3rd tallest tower in the world (for the highest towers of the world, visit http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0886190.html)

Not far from the TV Tower is the famous Jin Mao Tower, currently the tallest in China. Hyatt Hotel occupies 53rd to 87th floor (where Cloud 9, a coffee house, is located). An observatory deck is located on 88th floor. It is the 5th tallest building in the world (for the highest buildings in the world, visit http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001338.html)

The night scene at the bund is an experience you don't want to miss if you are in Shanghai! The buildings are all lit up till 10.30pm and you feel that you are in fairyland if you look from the upper floors of Jin Mao! (Thus, the crowd at Cloud 9, located on the 87th floor). Tonight, there was even a surprise firework display for a good half hour!

There's even a barge (see picture on the left) that carries a giant screen on one side that keeps playing video ads of giant companies such as Intel and Microsoft.

Xin Tien Di - Innocently-looking from the main road (you have to walk through a side road to get in), this place boasts of completely refurbished old-Chinese styled buildings It has a great night life with bars with live music, eating places and fine restaurants. . . and even live performances of opera and dance while I was there!

A Nice Yet Reasonable 24-Hour Chinese Restaurant

Here's one that's definitely recommended...

This is a HONG KONG Chinese restaurant located in Upper Serangoon Road, Singapore at the far end of Heartland Mall, just adjacent to the row of petrol kiosks.

The interior decor is superb with a wall hung graphic of the Hong Kong map, extending from Lantau to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories.

There's a wide choice of selection of food plus nice tasting hot and cold tea, coffee and 'yinyang', a mixed concoction of tea and coffee.

And the best part is... The prices are very reasonable.

My WIfe Said I Have A Bad Spending Habit...

I discovered a way to keep my hands clean after eating with my hands outdoors...

Have you ever eaten some food that you need to use your hand? Like chicken wings, chilli crab, steamed prawn and stuff like that. If you don't use your hand, it won't be 'shiok' (meaning 'no fun')

But yet, after eating, sometimes we don't have a proper place to wash our hands or maybe we're simply too lazy to leave the table and walk to the wash room :-)

So, what I do nowadays is to order a bottle of mineral water...

And then I'll drink only one-third of that and guess what?

I'll wash my hands with the balance two-third of the water :-) And she'll say, "That's expensive...paying a dollar just to wash your hands. You've got a bad spending habit!"

Singapore's Delicious Hokkien Mee

I finally got my taste of this Singapore's delicious hokkien mee...

Every time I drive along Upper Serangoon Road past Kovan MRT Station on my left and Heartland Mall on my right, I would notice this hokkien mee stall right at the corner of Simon Road that generates a lot of smoke! And it's often crowded with lots of people.

For months, somehow I can't get to taste this as either it's not open, too crowded or they're closed early about 11 pm.

Tonight, with GOD's blessings, I drove past there again in search for my late dinner. After parking, my wife thought it would take at least half an hour...

I was a bit hesitant as to wait or not wait? Well, time is so precious these days... And then, when we reached there, there was an empty table right in front of this popular stall.

And then, just after we sat down, the hawker assistant came and ask me whether I want the plates already fried! Hey, that's a MIRACLE. Instead of having to wait half an hour, I got my hokkien mee immediately. And it did taste nice.

What a Blessed Night...thank God!

P.S. Haha... I almost forgot - the chicken wing there is EXCELLENT! No kidding...the sauce is 1st class :-)

How I Survived My First Lions Club Meeting

I just got back from my 1st ever Lions Club meeting.

It was a friend, my ex-BNI Chapter member, who invited me. I told her how I have some friends in Lions but somehow they never invited me :-)

It's like when I was not yet a Christian a few years ago. I was studying various religions and was waiting for someone to invite me. It took an ex-colleague two years before he extended an invitation to me... It's really strange how things work.

Anyway...back to this first meeting which was conducted in a beautiful pre-war shop house in Tessensohn Road, Singapore. It's not a very big club but the members were closely knitted and committed to the cause which was much more important.

On that meeting, dinner was provided, coffee break and even a birthday cake for 3 of the members including my friend who invited me. In fact, she, along with 3 others, were actually inducted as new members that night. Plus, 2 visitors beside me actually committed to join on the spot!

Obviously, the pressure was on me :-) However, I know my own commitments and this is certainly not time yet for any additional commitment. My friend was very nice, very understanding and she said she'll not pressure me... Oh what a relief :-)

By chance, the District Governor (DG) was there who graced the occasion and gave a brief description of how Singapore, East and West Malaysia were divided into districts. She, a very graceful and long-serving lady, also gave a wonderful narration of those worldwide events where delegates come from many, many different countries and mentioned that the next is in Chicago and encouraged us to attend.

The meeting was conducted professionally by the President, Vice President and several community projects were discussed. And yet, the people were sincere and genuine. They kept it short and sweet and there was also good fellowship!

Oh yes, my friend's mom was also a long-standing lion who gave a roaring history of this club's formation....interesting.

Overall, it was a nice evening - an eye opener for me. At least, now I know what to expect when I'm ready to take on this social responsibilty as a human being. But now, first, wealth creation...that's what I dedicate these 5 years of my life to doing... other commitments can come later...

My 1st Experience With Jetstar, Asia's Budget Airline

On my recent trip to Pattaya for an Internet Marketing seminar, just 2 hours away from Bangkok by road, I had my 1st taste with JetStar, Asia's budget airline.

The 1st thing that hit me when I boarded the Airbus A320 aircraft was the comfortable leather seats... I saw an old man said this on TV which I found quite cute. He said the 4 "Olds" of Old Age are:

1) Old Spouse
2) Old Health
3) Old Capital
4) Old Friends

I marvel how he can look at it this way :-)

1) Old Spouse - when we get old, we want to have an old spouse by our side.

2) Old Health - certainly, we don't want any sickness and so we need old health.

What is Nanotechnology

I met a friend about 2 weeks back whom I've not caught up for about half a year. He has gone into a new nanotechnology business which was absolutely Greek to me :-) (However, it's good to learn something new once again.).

Essentially, with nanotechnology, comes products like steriliser which means NO MORE SMELLING SHOES, not just legs :-)

Sarawak Kolo Mee (or Noodle) Opens Nee Soon Branch

I discovered that Sarawak Kolo Mee (or Noodle) opened a new branch recently at Nee Soon while I went for breakfast yesterday at the famous Ampang Yong Tau Foo stall.

This branch is just 2 stalls away... I didn't get to taste from there though as you can see, I was early and their doors were not open yet.

Personally, I'm a BIG noodle fan :-) And I've tasted their noodles at their head office and branch at Chinatown which really tasted G-00-d, especially their Specialty Noodle. Try it folks - I'm not getting any commission, Haha...

Delicious Claypot Mee, S'pore

I just watched Channel News Asia as I took a lunch break...

Wow! You can't believe it! A man just got his MBA in his 60's PHD in his 70's !!

His name is Wee Lee King. (Perhaps you like to search him out. ) Whenever he applied to the learning institutions, they either rejected him outright or queried him why he wants to study!

How ridiculous? And we always talk about Life-long Learning... So do we walk the talk?

Here's an extract from Singapore Workforce Development Agency:

Lee King is our oldest Lifelong Learner Award winner. He is a fighter who nevergives up, having battled leukemia but never wavered in his quest to stayemployable.

Born in Guangdong, China, Wee Lee King and his family moved to Kluang,Johor, during World War II. At the end of the war, he came to Singapore to studyat the Chinese High School. "

Anyway, he persevered and got himself into MBA and then later PHD. It's fascinating that even a hall in China is named after him for his indomitable human spirit of learning.

Land Banking

I attended a Land Banking Talk last Saturday morning.

It was an eye opener. I never really understood Land Banking till now....

Well, if the company is strong, I believe that the investment is really great! They're talking about nearly 15% per annum ROI and the minimum investment is merely $10,000.

It's really cool if we have some spare cash to stash away. The money literally doubles in 5 to 6 years with this rate of return :-)
